How Are Prayer Times Calculated?
Islamic prayer times are calculated based on the position of the sun relative to the horizon. Each prayer has a specific astronomical definition:
- Fajr: Begins at dawn, when the sky starts to lighten
- Sunrise: When the sun first appears above the horizon
- Dhuhr: When the sun crosses the meridian (highest point)
- Asr: When the shadow of an object equals its length
- Maghrib: At sunset, when the sun disappears below the horizon
- Isha: When the twilight disappears
